Ok, it was only like two flakes, that picture is not from here....but to me it is still wonderous.

One of the people I admired most in Jr. High and High School died last week.

I had tried over the years to get in touch with her, but was never able to. I had not seen her since Graduation Day. Still, I almost named my little girl after this extraordinary friend.

Last week I found out from a newly connected FaceBook friend that she had died from cancer. She was a wife and mother of three young children ages 10, 4 and 2 years old.

Then I found her CarePages. If you have not yet found CarePages, this is probably a very good thing. I still have two other friends on CarePages.

CarePages is a website that lets a person with a threatening disease or condition update friends and family quickly and easily on their health and wellbeing. And the friends and family can write 'well wishes' in a comments section. In the cases where they are very very sick, others can log in for them, and give updates. It is like a collection of blogs for the unwell.

It is a wonderful place. And a terrible place at the same time.

But I thank God that I was able to read Elika’s journey on CarePages because I missed out on helping her fight that illness. I feel like I got to spend an extra day or so with her and catch up.

Her work to post her thoughts on her CarePages was a gift to those of us who loved her.

And thanks to FaceBook, I was able to find out in time to attend her lovely "Celebration of Life" service.

I was not a big fan of FaceBook, and all places cold and electronic. I prefer seeing my friends on a barstool, martinis in hand. But something pretty special was there to be found for me this past week....and therefore, I got to say goodbye to a friend.

Thank you internets.

Do you remember that Donny & Marie song from the close of their old TV show? Despite some memory loss due to chemo, I still remember all the words. "May tomorrow be a perfect day, may you find love and laughter along the way, may God keep you in his tender care, 'til he brings us together again".

I love the inference in the song that God only need watch over us until we’re back with Donny & Marie for the next show. In any case, I do like the words to the song, and I hope above all, that whoever it is that’s watching over us keep you and yours in good health, good spirits and good humor.

Just yesterday I sat on a bench in Central Park with a girlfriend, happily eating a Magnolia Bakery Cupcake.

Then I had an epiphany.

I am a tourist, not a New Yorker.

I could tell because the Magnolia Bakery Cupcake was purchased in midtown (the horror!).

It's been two and a half years, New York, and I finally know that it's over between us. I can tell it's over because I was happier about eating the cupcake than I was sad about being a tourist.

Mmmmm...cupcakes!! When's the last time you had a cupcake, cupcake???

This morning I put on a skirt and heels, applied lipstick, and went to my local elementary school to vote.

I quickly decided whether or not I thought Massachusetts should (basically) legalize pot, ban dog racing, and drastically reduce the state income tax.

I filled in bubbles next to candidates for all of the offices, even if the person was running unopposed.

And as I left the tiny gym I smiled even though I had tears in my eyes.

Voting gets me every time. I think about all the Americans who didn't have the "right" to vote until relatively recently. I get nostalgic and remember my mom bringing me into the voting booth. I am so proud to be an American, and this is the best way to display that pride - by voting.

I believe everyone's vote counts!

I hope you voted today, too!

The nicest, best-lookin' guys in Manhattan were building booths for a trade show this week. Murphy's Law was in full effect for me, but these guys were kind, helpful, and kept me laughing the whole time. Sorry the pictures aren't better, hopefully you get the idea!

I promised I wouldn't post their names, but I nicknamed the top two guys Jeter + A-Rod, and the third guy John Travolta (from Grease)...thanks again, boys!

I like to read bumper stickers. A lot. I was a kid in the 70s. You know, peace, love and all that bumper stuff.....

They are making somewhat of a comeback.

I saw the one that made my head turn for the first time in a LONG time...of course it was in the parking lot of the soccer fields. (geez people, when are you gonna be COOL???)

Ok, so here it is. Deep breath people:
