What the Office Bathroom looks like in Buenos Aires
My new awesome job sent me to Buenos Aires last week for a couple of days, and I took lots of pictures!

Can you imagine a bidet in our work bathrooms?? I didn't have the guts to ask if anyone ever uses it, I just thought it was so lovely and fancy that I had to share:

image

Also, on the sink was a cup used for drinking Yerba Mate tea. It's like that coffee mug that's been in the office kitchen for so long that you don't even know if the owner still works there. Except it's for tea, and that metal thing is a straw - that's how they suck down the Yerba Mate:

image

They really love their Yerba Mate tea....They only have one Starbucks down there (it just opened, I didn't get to see it), which is interesting because they don't really do "to go" with coffee or drinks. Instead I noticed a lot of people bring their own tea into the office:

image

Other than hang out in the bathroom, and study the tea-drinking habits of the Argentineans, I walked around a lot. If you're ever in Buenos Aires and you're looking for somewhere to eat, you could try here (I personally skipped it):

RIP, Cyd Charisse
I love the "old" movies with the random dance numbers. You know the ones - With Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly? And, the late, great Cyd Charisse.

Here, let me save you some time - here are the best parts:

From "Singin' in The Rain"

From "Bandwagon"

From "Meet Me In Las Vegas"

What better good luck charm than some good dancin' and a little "ooo la la" !!??????

I know Lara wants no part of the three ring circus on the court besides the players-- but aren't the results of this year (so far) great? worth it??

Freaky Friday
image

Happy Friday the 13th!

I don't know about you, but I'm having a great day!

Here's the first thing I saw this morning:

image

My Boston Celtics beat LA!! Sure, I fell asleep at halftime, and they have to win one more game to win the series and their 17th title. But the last time the Celtics were in the Finals (coincidentally, playing the Lakers), I was a senior in High School. I wrote "Beat LA" in white tape on my graduation cap. And we lost. I promptly left town. Some years later, this team has helped me be truly happy to be home.

So - how's YOUR Friday the 13th going???

The Bikini Banned?
Seems one Utah town (read= conservative mormon) had banned Bikini's at the local pool.

The local PUBLIC pool btw.

Read more here at MSNBC.

Oh, but "oops" they said it was a wording oversight and only meant to ban "STRING" Bikinis...uh huh.....

So what's the diff between a Bikini and a String Bikini?

Good luck with that guys.

Obviously, these folks haven't found the Burkini yet....or we know what would be imposed:
image

Oh, ladies, never fear, SPEEDOs are allowed.
image

(gosh that looks uncomfortable though....I keep thinking "squished squirrel" - an old East Coast lacrosse team joke on the bus to and from games.....where something is pressed up against the window to scare the mom in the minivan next to them on the highway....)

Happy Summer : )

So You Think You Can Dance - Early Favorite
So do YOU have an early favorite for So You Think You Can Dance?

image

I never tire of this show. But I did say that about The Bachelor didn't I?? hmmmmm

But since they cut the Beauty Queen and the Competition Dancer (two of my favorites before the top 20) I still have a favorite. Even though I'm still a bit upset that in order to make it with these snobby dance judges (who I love BTW) you have to always be able to do some creepy weirdo modern crap that I hate. But since YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE we have Mary - at least the Ballroom folks get through...

SO, my early favorite is SUSIE GARCIA

image

Shocked, I know you are. Do you think it's because I can relate to the pink in her hair? (rocks). Or that the picture has CHEETAH? (rocks). Or that she's just a bit more beauty queen, competition dancer than the rest? (rocks).

Yup, all of the above. She's not one of those dancers who straggles around in rags and looks like crap until costume time. Nope. Susie wears makeup. Does full hair all the time. My kinda girl. Because really? There actually are not that many 'girly girl' professional dancers that I have come across. And in my short dance career, which is not recognized by anyone in the "real" dance world because I did competition and NFL cheerleading.....I LOVED to wear makeup and do hair for practice....ok enough about stupid me...

The last question is where is my man Shane Sparks??
image

Who brought COOL to the show? I found him this past week on MTV doin' a great program called America's Best Dance Crew. (wha? season two? i missed seaon one??? yikes!)

Oh, and wikipedia fact I love --- Shane was doin' nothin' but takin' a class when the teacher was late one day and someone assumed he was the teacher -- he STEPPED UP and started teaching. When the teacher got there, he helped out after that....and then taught...and choreographed....and the rest is history man. Opportunity knocked, and he friggen answered. I love that.

Pictures Promised…
Ok, so I promised pictures from the '70s party - here they are!!!

image

No, no mistake.

I missed the party because THIS MONSTER was in my kitchen.

Animal Control didn't get to our house until after 8pm, and by 9pm when the snake was finally back in the woods, well, we were DONE for the night.

No, that's not my kitchen. It is not "the" snake. There was no way I had the presence (sp?) of mind to grab a camera and take pictures at the one point it climbed up our windowsill and almost reached the ceiling.

And no, I have no idea how long it was in the house before we saw it. Or where it came from, that it might come from again. My mind can NOT go there....

We have done bats. We have shot squirrels. But we don't do SNAKES!!!

Sorry, I guess I'll have to dress up in the outfit just to take a picture....just wait a little big until the weather cools down....

Putting the “YES” in Polyester
So the '70's Party is this Saturday.

And Virginia already has an EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING.

EXCESSIVE HEAT AND HUMIDITY plus LONG SLEEVED DOUBLE KNIT POLYESTER PANTSUIT = NOT GOOD

It will be 96 degrees - but with the Heat Index it will feel like 105-110 in regular clothes.

Add to that the "Polyester Index" and you're a lookin' at 112-118 degrees my friend.

It looks somethin' like this....
image

Oh how the weak and weary would give up.

But say a prayer for me o' gentle person.

I will carry the torch for those who have gone before me in the name of bad '70s fashion -- and for those who will go in the future.

I will persisist.

And I promise pictures.

Peace.

(hey - wasn't STREAKING a '70s fad? I'm so all over that one)

Preparation H - Not Just For Grandpa Anymore…
image

So, Fox News says the ol' Preparation H is "The New Club Drug."

Of course, I immediately think the kids are snorting it....or whatevah...

But actually, the dudes are mimicking bodybuilders and slathering it their "abs" to look more ripped for the girls as they dance.

Ok. I get that. And I don't recommend "off lable use."

BUTTTTTT....in the bigger picture here....I'm sorta excited that men these days at last CARE about how they look. Instead of sitting at the bar with a huge beer gut spilling over and rating which girls are most hot.

However, I am wondering how I'd feel as a 22 yr old chick if I hopped in his car after the bar and sat on a tube of Preparation H.... I mean....dude....it would look like he's got a BIG problem of some sort. So big he's gotta travel with his 'stuff.'

he he he...

I ALWAYS Wanted an Easy-Bake Oven…

But where have I been? I had no idea "they" now have

THE QUEASY BAKE OVEN

image

How long has this beauty been out on the market? You can tell I rarely toy shop -- but its that birthday time of year for us.

One blogger mentioned that this is the ultimate gift for the homophobic parent who is horrified Johnny wants an Easy-Bake oven....see? see the boy on the package??? Wow - I would have never thought of that...

And if your kid already has Queasy Bake, you of course can add on to the set and get him/her a

QUEASY SHAKE!
image

But really folks, the question STILL (after all these years or decades):

It cooks with a lightbulb? is that FDA or Health Department Approved?

Sex & The City: The Movie is ChickChat approved
image

That's me at the Sex & The City Boston premiere last night! Don't worry - no plot spoilers here!

Yesterday I got home from a business trip and took the subway straight to the movie theater. You may notice that I'm wearing a laptop backpack and business clothes (Ann Taylor Loft, no less. Shoot me.). The only appropriate thing I'm wearing is that huge smile!!!

Also? Instead of smuggling in a thermos of cosmos and 3 of my BFFs, I took my husband and a Quiznos sub. I did get a huge popcorn and lemonade, so I'd have something pink to drink.... I needed SOMETHING to make me feel connected to S&TC!!

To review, when the series ended, I was single and living in NYC. Now, I'm married and living in a suburb of Boston. Identity crisis, anyone?

Anyway - were you wondering how the movie is? The answer is: It's worth the $10 just to spend 2+ hours with the girls. The plot is weak. I don't like the overall message it sent. There's so much product placement that it felt infomercial-y at some points. And poor Jennifer Hudson, carrying the responsibility of making the movie relevant to Black women. I could go on, but I won't.

I LOVED watching this movie in a theater full of girls (and my husband). I loved that all of the girls in the movie have moved on since we left them - just like my real-life friends. Hasn't everyone's life changed in the last 4 years??

The movie didn't feel as "only-in-New-York" as the tv show did, if you are a girl who is or was single, you will laugh and cry and relate to this movie the way you related to the tv show.

Have a great weekend - and let us know if you liked the movie!!!

Ahhhh - the 70’s
I'm going to a '70's party in a couple weeks. I'm knee-deep in '70's stuff.....wow, it was awful....

image
Don'tcha just wanna meet any couple who actually bought this matching shirt disaster? and ask them how their life has been???

image
Someone in my family actually owned a rainbow striped robe....but I can't even remember if it was my sister or my dad.... but dudes, did men really wear that stuff???

After MUCH research, I have concluded that the '60s groovy was gross and great. The '80's had awful shoulder pad charm. But the '70s was a WASTELAND in between with nothing of its own really...just watered down bad '60s fashion and weak attempts to move on to the '80s.

Greater Love Has No One Than This….
Than to give their life, for our country.

It is Memorial Day. Take a moment....I usually take my moment with YouTube.....

Taps.....

And Remember...

Words to Taps
(Note: there are no "official" words to Taps
below are the most popular.)

Day is done,
gone the sun,
From the hills,
from the lake,
From the skies.
All is well,
safely rest,
God is nigh.
Go to sleep,
peaceful sleep,
May the soldier
or sailor,
God keep.
On the land
or the deep,
Safe in sleep.

Love, good night,
Must thou go,
When the day,
And the night
Need thee so?
All is well.
Speedeth all
To their rest.

Fades the light;
And afar
Goeth day,
And the stars
Shineth bright,
Fare thee well;
Day has gone,
Night is on.

Thanks and praise,
For our days,
'Neath the sun,
Neath the stars,
'Neath the sky,
As we go,
This we know,
God is nigh.

Thank you to each and every soldier. And their family. God Bless You.

Sexiest Photo EVER!!
image

I can't get enough of Vogue Magazine's "Carrie" shoot - check it out here. The article was pretty cool, too.

This picture is smokin' hot...I can't help but stare at it. It is in my head. Something about how he's gently looking through the camera at her, and she's looking away from him, but she's posing for him...HOT!

Am I obsessed with Sex & The City: The Movie? Yes. I can't wait to see it, as I've mentioned - I miss my grrls! I can't wait to see them together again, up on the big screen!

Do you like this picture??
