Next entry: Flag Cake Smackdown THE WINNER
Previous entry: As long as you're feeling crafty....
tesco:
Two layers of Velvet Red cake, one Classic White with blueberry filling and buttercream icing between, all rolled fondant icing pieced together -one by one and an edible print of the Declaration. I made a pattern for the stars out of sheet metal and cut them out of fondant as well.

Amber:
What? The American flag isn't pink-ish, white and bright blue?!
That's Ghirardelli white chocolate chips, ladies. Nothing but the best. And the cupcakes next to it are courtesy of my hubby. He says they are fireworks.
Carrisa:
Do you all need to know what ingredients I used? If so I'll say it's a red velvet cake with a frosting I made myself out of Cool Whip, Cream Cheese, Vanilla, and Powdered Sugar.
I used cherries from a can of cherry pie filling and washed them off so they wouldn't be messy. And then mini marshmallows. I used fondant to make the blue patch and the stars.
My coworkers absolutely loved it.

As I hate Jello, my second thought was to "decorate" the inside of the cake as well.
I dyed white cake mix red or blue and only used five tubs of white frosting.
It tasted fairly normal and each piece had about a gazillion grams of sugar.
Although it looks like I had a 7 years old helping me, I did it all :>
The winner? Listen today to ChickChat Radio to find out!! : )
I like the positioning here.
snickrsnack - you DO get bonus points in my eyes for getting exact star and stripe number!
Yay! Bonus points for me!!! I figured since my cake wasn’t made with fancy stuff like fondant I had to make up for it by getting the effect w/ the stars and stripes. I love everyone’s cakes! I wish there were a taste-test! I would volunteer for that!
alls I have to say is I’m going to start practicing with fondant now so that next year I can kick some major hiney.
oh and also it’s Carrisa… not Carissa… just sayin’.
BTW? If I was judging, anyone who used red velvet cake would get major bonus points from me. Mm...red velvet cake! Yum!!
aaaaa! Thanks CaRRisa.
You’d think after ALL the effort you put into this, I could spell your name correctly!!!!
: )
I think RSM should get a consolation prize for most time spent in preparing the cake. After the first six hours I would have thrown the thing out the window and bought cupcakes at the grocery store.
So, the winner is Tesco, eh? Congrats! I am glad that RSM got second place - hers is amazing!
So I hear one of the judges liked my cake! I feel so special! I can’t wait to hear the podcast!
I think Heidi must have forgotten to post my entry. I will have to call her tonight and find out what happened.
Well it was a flag cake contest and not a picture of your crotch contest… so that may be why your entry was left out Jay. Just a guess.
Wooo-hoo! TOP FIVE!!!!
we’ll show your big effort crazy jay—AFTER the true contestants have gotten their time… : )
Now I see the flag cross section! The size of the pictures screwed me up!
I see I forgot to give an explanation of how I made my cake. I used Pillsbury Funfetti cake mix (which looks patriotic since the inside has sprinkles, sort of like fireworks). The outside was frosted in white icing and then the thirteen stripes were added to the flag. After that, the blue on the flag was added, and the mini marshmallows were cut into quarters so 50 would fit on the flag. Then I coated the edges with some red, white and blue sprinkles. Voila!
All the cakes ROCK! I can’t wait to see who wins!
