How do you shave your legs?
image

Here in my fancy new apartment, we have to pay for water. I've never gotten a water bill, I have no idea what to expect. I do so many other environmentally-friendly things (ie, not owned a car since the early 90s) that my one indulgence has been, until now, 10-minute hot showers. I deep conditioned, shaved my legs, and steamed my pores with a little heat. Now, I'm completely focused on getting in and outta the shower in record time. Also, I've had a hard time contorting myself to shave my legs in the new shower (quickly or otherwise). So, between the waste of water and the difficulty of shaving, I figured I'd ask for some new ideas.

How do you shave your legs?? Anyone do the sink method? Sit on the side of the tub? Any helpful hints are welcome....

Also, after a lifetime of being loyal to my razor brand, I've broken up with Daisy. You know how there are some brands that no matter how poor you are, you have to have? Daisy razors and Hellman's mayonnaise are two of those brands for me. But after my stepdaughter introduced me to Bic Soleil disposables, I knew I had to kick Daisy to the curb.

I’m afraid I’m one of those really bad sorts who takes long showers!

I, myself, take ten minute showers and have mastered the art of the flamingo leg shaving dance in my dorm’s tiny shower.

My roommate, on the other hand, since she lacks balance and is bigger than I am--thus making the tiny shower even worse--prefers two decent-sized bowls of water. After showering, she’ll put clean water in both bowls. She wets a section of her leg with water from the first bowl, rubs on some shaving cream, shaves that section, and rinses the razor in the other bowl. It’s a long process, and rather silly looking, but it does cut down on her shower time and makes the process safer for her.

I am also a fan of the long shower and I don’t think I could give it up. I love the Schick Intuition razor. You don’t need shaving cream, it is built in.  You get a close shave and if you get the sensitive skin formula, it smells kinda like the way suntan lotion used to smell. Love it! The razor cartridges are a little pricey but well worth it.

The razors made for guys are the best....best blades.

I get the NON earth friendly blue disposable razors.....and keep myself limber by hiking my leg up on the wall of a stall shower : )

Why not wax instead?  It’s twenty minutes of mild discomfort once every five weeks or so, no stubble and no flopping about in the shower waving your legs about like a dying fly.  After a couple of years of waxing (I do treat myself to a salon wax), the hair is much finer and paler, so it needs doing less as you get older.

I do the sink thing, since my shower is big enough for a 5 year old to be in comfortably.  Just do the dishes (my bathroom sink is too small to try it in) and go at it.

Plus, I love the venus razors, but then men’s Mach 3 Fusion power is okay too.

Sarah - EXCELLENT question.  I don’t wax because this year my skin turned SO sensitive that I suddenly have rosacea everywhere.  I used to be a loyal bikini waxer but my skin goes bonkers for days.

That’s bad news.  You do know that one’s skin becomes much more sensitive around the time of menstruation, don’t you?  It’s bad luck if you end up with re-growth that coincides, so that’s worth thinking about.  Also, different types of wax seem to have different effects - my waxer uses a pink gloop and it doesn’t bring my skin out, but the honey coloured wax leaves me looking like I have the measles for days - just a thought…

Wow, thanks Sarah - I’ll have to look into it.

Schick Quattro.

I can do it in the shower, or at the sink, or at the picnic table at the cabin. I don’t care so much where.

I just have different techniques for each circumstance.

Shower: foot up on the tub edge.

Sink: washcloth to wet leg; then rub a small amount of hair conditioner instead of shave cream which sucks and dries out skin. Then wipe down with washcloth again.

Picnic table: have husband help shave. Oh, oops, that’s not my legs anymore we’re talking about.

<grin>

I’ve not tried waxing, but a friend swears by the cold wax method.

Use the Shick Intuition razor! It has the “conditioning solid” around it so you cut out the need for shaving cream. I just fill the bathtub with a little bit of water, but you could do sink too- much less messy than razors & cream!!
