ChickChat Movie Review: The REAL star of Julie & Julia
image

Yes, you should see Julie & Julia - especially if you're a guy.

In addition to award-winning actors, mouth-watering food, a clever story, and a tale of two women who get saved by food - I submit "happy marriages to perfect men" as the real star of this movie.

I got to see it with one of my bestest girlfriends, a large popcorn & Sour Patch Kids. We should have seen it with our husbands, or dragged any single guy we could find so they could see how men should treat women.

The REAL star of Julie & Julia shows two relationships in two different eras, with the world's two most supportive husbands. Don't get me wrong - I'm six months pregnant and loved watching all the food. And I adore my husband, as does my friend. But the only moments when we looked at each were when the husbands did something SO thoughtful and SO supportive that we had to make eye contact and psychically ask each other, "Where did they find these guys???" And there's even a big ol' blow-out fight with one of the couples!

There was a whole article in The New York Times about how rare it is to see a happy marriage on screen, let alone two, and how Nora Ephron got the mojo to portray these two couples as happy. Click here if you missed it...

This weekend I saw District 9 - which was better than I thought. The only problem I had was believing that the hot girl was married to the goofy guy.

Sharon Stone: Still hot, photo to prove it…
Now that I have your attention...

Have you ever had a guy disappear on you? Wanted to stalk him but didn't really know where to start?

Well, this guy went on a planned 2-week trip to Europe, and his girlfriend forgot that he was going, and she proceeds to leave all kinds of messages, etc, for him. It's 7 minutes long, and worth every second. Some people might think she's a nut job, but I completely understand where she's coming from. I mean, she forgot where he was! And she LOVED him! Some people think this was made-up. Can't wait to hear what YOU think.

And on the subject of crazy chicks....as promised, click here to see how the French do Sharon Stone (NSFW) ... she may be a little kooky, but girlfriend is HOT HOT HOT!

Run, Don’t Walk, to Food Inc.
Remember, my favorite book is "Milk the Deadly Poison." (read it around 10 yrs ago). But I like to think of myself as ahead of my time : )......

I haven't seen a movie in the theater since I think Legally Blonde. (the first one).

I had a chance for dinner and a movie this week (kids w/ grandparents).

I picked FOOD INC.
image
find your local movie times on their site --- Food Inc.

I thought I knew eveything about how bad our food was (you KNOW how much I hate High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS).

I learned at least five new things. And I think I dislike HFCS even more now!!!

I've always been scared of Monsanto. Now I'm terrified.

My heart breaks for these farmers.

And the bravest chicken farmer was a WOMAN! We're not surprised, right? She let the cameras into her chicken house. She lost her Purdue contract because she won't upgrade to the windowless chicken house.

You have to see this documentary. It was only in our local "art house" theater. But I made the one hour trip and thought it well worth it.

(the farmer who pointed out that the folks complaining about the higher cost of grass fed beef were holding a .75 cent coke was HI-larious).

Have you seen it yet? What did you think??????????????

Happy Viewing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh, and yes. I had dinner AFTER the movie. It was all good. (Thai satay chicken - YUM!).

Please Hold Me….sniff sniff…
Oh gosh - I sure hate to ruin your day. I know there is enough bad news out there. I'm hurt too.

Please Hold Me.

From FoxNews.com -- Once-Trendy Crocs Could Be On Last Legs

Whether you marveled at their functionality or winced at their quirky design, the future of the little foam wonder shoes called Crocs hangs in the balance.

Once the darling of a booming economy, the manufacturer sold a remarkable 100 million pairs of the cheap, comfortable clog in just seven years. But that was then.
The company lost a whopping $185.1 million in 2008 and was forced to cut 2,000 jobs, the Washington Post reports.

image

Whole sad story here...

Now, to 'get over it' can I direct your shoe attention to perhaps a nice pair of SALE Kenneth Cole shoes??? (cheaper than crocs by far...)

Why I voted for Kris Allen
I thought Kris Allen killed last night, didn't you????

image

I totally voted for him. Here's why:

1. He's adorable! I just want to reach over and tousle his hair!
2. He is a pop singer, isn't that what the show is about??
3. I thought he did a great job with that silly Kara song.
4. I loves me an underdog!
5. I can't wait for Adam to headline a metal band...or a Broadway show...or whatever. He's talented alright - but he's not MY American Idol.

Who did you vote for??

Hatch, Match and Dispatch
So I was in church yesterday...wha? Are you laughing? Yes, I'm the only one of my friends who seems to go to church. I feel like a throwback....a dinosaur. Anywhoo....

The sermon was something about "Abide" -- I didn't hear a word of that. All I heard was the inside joke that our pastor dude told about C&E Christians (Christmas and Easter).

They joke that people only use the church to "HATCH, MATCH and DISPATCH." (well, I thought it was pretty funny)

And really, it is very true. And maybe that is why I go to church. I would not feel right strolling in to get married after the last time I darkened their door was as a baby getting baptized.

Then I assume they are ok with putting on a big funeral service for me? On a weekend nonetheless? (that's double overtime, no?).

image

I have to earn my "Hatch, Match and Dispatch" I feel. Not the point he was getting at in the sermon....but my mind wanders....(surprised, right?)

So when I saw a story on Fox News Video about a cute old man from Alabama trying to honor his deceased wife's wishes to be buried in her front yard (yet getting the ixnay on the urybay in the yard) - I thought again about "Dispatch." It is a favorite subject of mine -- this death thing.

I want to be buried in my backyard. It is a line I give to everyone when the subject of moving comes up. I was raised in a Navy family and now I don't want to move any longer. And I want a 'hometown' So where I live now? I'm not moving. And I think being buried here would be great.

UNTIL, someone burst my bubble and told me it is not really allowed in most places.

WHAT? You mean my neighbor is allowed to tear down a historic home put up the ulgliest oversized McManshion, yet I can't be buried in my backyard? Where are the property rights folks when you reallllly need them ???? : )

(don't ask me about ashes -- if you listen to ChickChat you KNOW that is not a good option for anyone -- just think of the four letter word "wind"....)

Well, we'll just see about zoning and health codes -- it might be possible...... just think of all the pets that must be back there!!!

So while you are laughing at me, where are YOU gonna be "Dispatched" ????

LOST Finale.  The Good News and the Bad News.
Bad news first, right?

The Bad News: is that LOST still sucks. Ever since the writers abandoned the smoke, the monster, the growling, and the funky underground stuff......and started using waaay to much shooting, killing, bombing, blasting, death and destruction....I have been a very unhappy LOST watcher.

The ONLY thing that has kept me dragging throught the bloody episodes each week (nice show to watch before bed, huh?) is THE FOUR TOE-ED STATUE. Remember it???

image

Let me take you back to May 2007 -- THAT is when my obsession with the 4-toed statue peaked. Original Statue Blog Post.

I've been waiting ALL. THIS. TIME.

The Good News: Finally, it paid off last night.

We got to see the ENTIRE STATUE. And we're under the statue.

Yes, they are ruining it somewhat with killing people at the statue. But now at least I don't have to scream at the LOST writers asking for a few seasons of my life back while I wait for news about the statue.

BUT WHY FOUR TOES??? WILL SOMEONE TELL ME WHY????????????

(I thought the box they had contained a toe, not Lock!!! how weird am I??)

Did Trump Plan the Miss California Controversy??
No - he did not plan the controversy. You can't make this stuff up!! The ol' Truth is Stranger than Fiction, right??

But if he did, Donald Trump could not plan or time his PR any better than this Miss California stuff...

First, Joan Rivers wins celebrity Apprentice this past week.

Then his Miss U.S.A Pageant delivers its annual "Super PR Controversy."

imageimage

How does he do it?

Miss California might lose her crown/position this morning. Not because of her views supporting marriage only between a man and a woman - but because of nakidity. (its a ChickChat word).

If she does lose the title, I guess every Sports Illustrated or Victoria's Secret model shouldn't compete in pageants either. Those photos are way more nekkid than Miss California's appear to me : )

And if Miss California loses her title - you know what? it probably will be a huge boost to the cause that Miss California is championing right now. But even MORE??? It will be an even BIGGER PR boost for our pal Mr. Donald Trump.

You gotta love him. I sure do!

****MUUUUUWWWAH**** Love ya Donald!!

Should You FaceBook “Friend” Your Ex?
This keeps coming up. I'm sure there is a whole set of rules for the 20 and under set. (and BTW, what are they?)

But what if you are 30 or over? My first inclination is NO WAY. But then a great ex that I lived with and would consider a great friend popped up new on FaceBook.

Hmmmm.....

Should You "Friend" ex boyfriends/girlfriends?
image

(I'm not talking about your old prom date -- I'm FB friends with him, he's a great guy and that is that. I'm talking about hot and heavy long term past college relationships...the big important kind. )

Now, you know how I feel about the whole "Can Men and Women be Friends" thing.....NO. Men and Women cannot be just friends, because men will always think how you look naked. That is not what "friends" do, right???

But FaceBook friends is a little different. Right?

image

Now that you have answered. How would you feel if your current boyfriend, husband was FaceBook 'friends' with their ex? Hmmmm..... I'm not so thrilled with that myself. I mean, it could just be another person on the 'friend list' that you intermittently stalk. OR, are you conversing back and forth? And about what?

And the biggest question of all here - WHY?

WHY carry on even FaceBook/internet relationships with exes? Do you wanna look good to them? (see what you missed out on mister) Do you wanna know what you missed out on? (should I have held onto that one?). Do you just wanna add to your "number?" (not the bedpost one, the FaceBook number).

Lemme know what you think here....

Happy Bad Mothers Day!
I could not be MORE EXCITED that the conversation about this is opening up, again.

It all started when a wonderful woman named Ayelet Waldman wrote an essay a few years ago about loving her husband more than her kids. I was pregnant with a two year old, and I had found a new hero!!!!

image

Ayelet Waldman has a new book out -- and says "I believe that mothers should tell the truth, even--no, especially--when the truth is difficult."

Halleluiah sista! I do too.

Like Ayelet I love my husband more than my kids. And if that is "bad" -- I don't wanna be "good."

But like Ayelet, I wonder why I feel so alone in this thought. Could life be all that ok when spent with palms grasped so tightly on the helicopter controls?? Or are all these women lying about how wonderful spending every waking moment with toddlers and babies is? Why would any woman lie so much? I can't make any sense of why anyone might feel compelled to say something just because it is "expected" of them. But I think it happens. A lot, right???

I can't wait to read her new book: Bad Mother: A Chronicle of Maternal Crimes, Minor Calamities, and Occasional Moments of Grace

Having kids is just not the end all be all (ask anyone who has chosen not to have them....or can't.....somehow they make it through life everyday)

Well, gotta go off to my "Three Martini Playdate" -- sans the kids... : )
